Award-Winning Australian Short Films Arrive in Sydney for One Night Only
Media Release posted Wednesday 10 June,2026
The Very Short Film Festival (VSFF) brings a bold new wave of Australian storytelling to Sydney this July, with a special screening at Palace Cinemas as part of its 2026 National
Tour.
Following a celebrated National Premiere Weekend in Hobart, VSFF is now bringing its 2026 Official Selection and award-winning films to Sydney. Among this year’s winners were
Sydney filmmaker Sofia Poli, who took out Best Director for Tidal, and Taylan Gogan, whose film darrens_camera was awarded Best Junior Film.
The Sydney screening will feature a curated selection of this year’s standout films, alongside a filmmaker Q&A with several NSW filmmakers, giving audiences the opportunity to hear
directly from the creatives behind the stories.
Marta Dusseldorp, Award-Winning Actor and Producer,VSFF Ambassador
“The Very Short Film Festival offers an excellent platform for storytelling voices. The films are always unique, full of heart and often have a great twist. Celebrating them with an
audience, in a cinema, is incredibly special and so important for our filmmakers to see themselves on the big screen. This festival reminds us how our stories connect us while also
unearthing new Australian talent.” — Marta Dusseldorp, Award-Winning Actor and Producer, VSFF Ambassador
The program brings together short films from filmmakers across Australia, exploring a wide range of stories, perspectives and themes. Created specifically for VSFF, each film offers a
distinct voice while responding to this year’s festival signature, Thread, in diverse and unexpected ways. The result is a collection of stories that invite audiences to laugh, reflect
and see things differently.
Open to filmmakers of all ages and backgrounds, VSFF celebrates storytelling in its most concise and powerful form. Every film is under five minutes, delivering impact, originality and
craft within a tight frame.

As part of the 2026 National Tour, VSFF will screen in cinemas across Australia, connecting audiences with emerging Australian filmmakers and celebrating the power of short-form
storytelling on the big screen.
“Stories have an incredible way of connecting people. What excites us about the national tour is taking these films beyond one weekend and giving audiences across Australia the
chance to experience them together. These stories have the power to resonate in unexpected ways and spark conversations long after the credits roll.”. — Tamara Svirskis,Festival Director
