Buddha’s Birthday Festival returns to Darling Harbour this May
Sydney, 15 April 2026/Publicity Release
Darling Harbour will once again host Buddha’s Birthday Festival on Saturday 2 – Sunday 3 May, with a FREE, family-friendly celebration of harmony, peace and unity.
Across two days, the festival will welcome visitors of all backgrounds to experience and enjoy performances, vegetarian food, meditation and mindfulness, cultural ceremonies and family-friendly activities in the heart of the city. From energetic lion dance performances and calming guided meditation sessions, to a heartfelt baby blessing ceremony and traditional Buddhists rituals, the weekend blends celebration and reflection in an inclusive and peaceful setting. The Harmony in Diversity performances at the Sound Shell will also bring together music, movement and storytelling that reflect shared cultural values and the festival’s themes of harmony, peace and coexistence.

Beyond the Sound Shell, visitors can explore a dedicated Vegetarian Food Fair serving delicious plant-based dishes inspired by cuisines from around the world, alongside Tea Meditation a bustling marketplace of cultural crafts, wellness products, thoughtful gifts and Buddhist artworks, and plenty of opportunities to pause, connect and unwind.
Saturday 2 May will bring a vibrant and energetic opening for the weekend, beginning with the VegRun: Run for Peace, Run for Happiness, before the precinct comes alive with traditional Lion Dances at Tumbalong Park, ceremonial blessing and the major Harmony, Peace and Coexistence Ceremony in the afternoon.
Sunday 3 May will offer a softer, more reflective close to the weekend, with families invited to take part in the heartfelt Baby Blessing Ceremony, alongside continued performances, food experienced and mindful moments across the precinct. The festival will conclude with the Voices of Peace finale, bringing the community together in a powerful celebration of unity and hope to round out the weekend.
Whether drawn by the food, mindfulness experiences or a relaxed outing with family and friends, Buddha’s Birthday Festival offers an accessible and enriching celebration of tradition, community and meaningful connection in the heart of Sydney.
