Sydney woke to the news of yet overnight shooting, this time in Riverwood, where a man was ambushed on a suburban street.

Shadow Police Minister Paul Toole said the incident is the latest in a pattern of frightening, brazen and escalating violence that is becoming all too common across Sydney.

“There are shootings in suburban streets, bullets fired into family homes, people running for cover near gyms and shops,” Mr Toole said.

“Take a look at what is happening across our state’s capital city, and you will know this is not normal.

“These aren’t isolated incidents. This is repeated, reckless and dangerous gun violence happening right in the middle of our communities.”

NSW Police have confirmed many of the recent attacks are driven by organised crime.

Mr Toole said the scale of gun availability is deeply troubling.

“Criminals are treating Sydney suburbs like their own battlegrounds, and it’s families who are living in fear,” Mr Toole said.

“Police are doing everything they can, but the violence keeps happening.

Mr Toole said the community is demanding action from the Police Minister. Families deserve to feel safe in their homes, in their streets and in their city.

“The Minns Government must take this seriously before more innocent people get caught up in this escalating violence.”
