The 2026 Melbourne Food & Wine Festival: A Definitive Guide to the City’s Ultimate Culinary Takeover

Melbourne -Saturday 21 March,2026

The 2026 Melbourne Food and Wine Festival (MFWF) has officially taken over the city, running from March 20 to March 29. This year’s program is a massive celebration of Melbourne’s diverse culinary DNA, featuring over 200 events that range from high-end international collaborations to free street parties.

Whether you are a seasoned gourmand or a casual snacker, here is your comprehensive guide to the venues, chefs, and must-visit restaurants of the 2026 festival.

 Signature Events & Major Venues

1. The World’s Longest Lunch

  • Venue: Kings Domain

  • The Talent: Ella Mittas (Author & Chef), Alex Xinis (Tzaki), and the team from Kafeneion (Con Christopoulos and Stavros Konis).

  • The Vibe: A 600-metre table winding through the park, seating 1,600 diners. This year’s theme is “Greek Melbourne,” featuring slow-roasted lamb shoulder with chickpeas and portokalopita (orange filo cake).

2. Cake Picnic (Southern Hemisphere Debut)

  • Venue: Kings Domain

  • The Talent: Founded by Elisa Sunga.

  • The Vibe: A massive community cake swap. Attendees bring a homemade cake to share, creating a sugary wonderland in the park.

3. Baker’s Dozen

  • Venue: Federation Square (March 28–29)

  • The Talent: Over 20 of Victoria’s best bakeries, including Amann Patisserie, Butter Days, Monforte Viennoiserie, Raya, and Lune Croissanterie (featuring a special vegan collaboration with Phil Khoury).

This series pairs international heavyweights with Melbourne’s top-tier kitchens for one-off collaborative menus.

 Street Food & Free Activations

You don’t need a $300 ticket to enjoy the festival. Several “block party” style events are scattered throughout the CBD.

  • Festival of Korean Fried Chicken: Held at Park Street Laneway (off Healeys Lane). Expect a K-wave party with free serves of crispy wings from 11 am to 2 pm.

  • Something Saucy (The Pizza Party): Located at Leonardo’s Pizza Palace, featuring collaborations with Leggo’s.

  • The Spicy Side of Collins Street: A two-day celebration at Melbourne Quarter focusing on the city’s best chili-laden dishes.

  • Indonesia Street Food Festival: Taking over Queen Victoria Market (March 28–29) for a weekend of satay, sambal, and cultural performances.

 Regional Roadtrip

The festival extends beyond the city limits into Victoria’s lush food bowls:

  • Pt. Leo Estate (Mornington Peninsula): Hosting the “Wine Terrace Fiesta” featuring Josep Espuga and Benjamin Cooper (Chin Chin) cooking paella over open flames.

  • Echuca Wharf: Hosted the regional “Longest Lunch” to kick off the festival.

  • Jayden Ong Winery (Yarra Valley): “Into the Forest” lunch featuring foraging and cool-climate wines.

 Pro-Tips for Attendees

  1. Transport: For events at Kings Domain, use the new Anzac Station or take any St Kilda Rd tram from Flinders Street.

  2. Sold Out? Many signature dinners (like Lunch with Helen Goh) sell out months in advance. Check the MFWF website daily for “New Session” releases or “Resale” tickets.

  3. Dietaries: Most major events like the World’s Longest Lunch offer specific Vegan, Vegetarian, and Low Gluten menus, but these must be pre-booked.
