Ready, set, scoop! Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day returns down under

Sydney, Australia, 30 April 2026: The Ben & Jerry-est day of the year is officially back. Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day returns to Scoop Shops across Australia on Tuesday, 5 May, serving up unlimited free scoops of its infamous chunky, swirly flavours.
For one day only, Aussies are invited to line up at participating Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops to enjoy unlimited free scoops – from classics like Chocolate Fudge Brownie and Cookie Dough to Scoop Shop exclusives.
Last year alone, Aussies scooped up more than 160,000 free cones nationwide, with Victoria crowned the most generous state, serving over 50,000 free cones, followed by Queensland (45,000) and New South Wales (41,000).
Choc Chip Cookie Dough was the most popular flavour, with Aussies enjoying more than 24,000 scoops of the much-loved classic.
Sean Farrell, Country Manager for Ben & Jerry’s ANZ, said Free Cone Day has become one of the brand’s most anticipated moments of the year. “Free Cone Day is one of our biggest and most-loved days on the calendar. What started as a thank you to fans in one store and one community, has turned into an iconic global event that brings fans, scoopers and our local communities together. There’s something pretty special about seeing Aussies come together over free ice cream.”
How it works is simple. Turn up at a participating Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop on 5 May to get a free scoop. Can’t choose between flavours? No problem. Jump back in line and do it again. On Free Cone Day, we encourage all our fans to enjoy as much ice cream as possible!
Free Cone Day began nearly 50 years ago, when co-founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield wanted to serve up a ‘thank you’ to the residents of Burlington, Vermont after surviving its first Vermont winter thanks to its loyal fans. What started as an ice cream giveaway from a single Scoop Shop, has grown into a global celebration spanning 13 countries.
In 2026, Ben & Jerry’s has a bold goal to give away one million and one free scoops worldwide.
“Free Cone Day is all about our fans,” Mr Farrell said. “Having served 1 million scoops globally in 2025, this year’s aim is to go bigger and better – one million and one scoops to spread a little joy on the best unofficial holiday of the year.”
