Wanted Arts and Culture Correspondents/Reporters for the Sydney Times

Are you a passionate “culture vulture” with a knack for storytelling?
The Sydney Times is looking for “Volunteer with Perks” Freelance Arts & Culture Correspondents to join our vibrant community and our News and Lifestyle Team. If you’re already creating engaging content on social media and dream of working in media, this is your chance to contribute to Sydney’s thriving arts scene!
What you’ll do:
- Discover & Report: Find, research, and write captivating stories about Sydney’s diverse arts and culture scene. This includes chasing leads, attending press conferences and media events, and developing both news and feature articles.
- Engage & Interview: Conduct interviews with artists, performers, community figures, and other key sources to bring fresh perspectives to our readers. You’ll also build and maintain contacts to ensure a steady flow of exciting news.
- Create Visually: Capture high-quality digital photographs (and ideally basic video for social media like Reels & TikToks) to accompany your articles, enhancing their visual appeal.
- Write & Edit: Produce concise, accurate, and engaging articles that adhere to publication style and deadlines. You’ll proofread, edit, and improve stories for our robust online digital platform (www.sydneytimes.net.au) and social media channels.
- Collaborate: Work closely with our news team, photographers, and editors, participating in content brainstorms and sharing your creative ideas.
We’re looking for individuals with:
- A strong passion for arts and culture.
- Experience or a keen interest in digital photography.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- The ability to conduct interviews and gather information effectively.
- A proactive approach to finding and investigating new stories.
- The capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
- Expereince in uploading and sharing Facebook and Instagram and other social media
