The Sydney Times is seeking ambitious and experienced Political Correspondents to join our growing newsroom team. We are expanding our coverage of Sydney civic affairs and NSW State politics with a strong focus on factual, objective, and unfiltered reporting.
In a media environment often shaped by commentary and opinion, The Sydney Times aims to provide readers with direct access to news and government developments without political bias or editorial influence. Our mission is to deliver clear, accurate, and accessible journalism that allows readers to reach their own informed opinions.
The Opportunity
Successful applicants will:
• Cover NSW State Government and Sydney City Council media events
• Attend press conferences and political briefings
• Capture high-resolution photos and video content
• Produce clear, accurate, and engaging news articles for publication
• Monitor legislation, council motions, and public policy developments affecting NSW communities
Selection Criteria
• 3–5 years of journalism, reporting, or media experience preferred
• Strong understanding of NSW politics and local government processes
• Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently under deadlines
• Commitment to objective and ethical journalism
Remuneration
The Sydney Times currently operates using a freelance contractor payment model for journalists with a registered ABN (Australian Business Number). The organisation intends to transition toward a PAYE employment structure as operations and revenue continue to grow throughout 2026.
