LABOR: EASING OF RESTRICTIONS SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO NSW PARLIAMENT
Labor has today welcomed the easing of COVID-19 restrictions in NSW but questioned why strict measures are still in place at State Parliament restricting the ability for local MP’s to advocate for their community.
The Manager of Opposition Business Ryan Park urged the Berejiklian Government to extend the major relaxation of restrictions to the Legislative Assembly Chamber so local MP’s can actively participate in Question Time and ensure local communities are adequately represented.
“How come we can go to nightclubs but not all Members of Parliament can sit in the chamber for Question Time and raise issues on behalf of their community? It doesn’t make sense,” Mr Park said.
“It’s great that restrictions in pubs and clubs have been eased to allow people to dance and drink while standing and gigs are back on across NSW, but surely it is time to ease restrictions at NSW Parliament.
“It terrific to see some normality returning to NSW but I don’t understand why Parliament isn’t included in the easing of restrictions? Parliament must return to operating at its full capacity, doing the work it needs to do for the people of NSW.”
