Sporets report /Posted Saturday 22 November,2025

Adelaide, Australia—Latvia’s dynamic duo, Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova, delivered a monumental performance on the sands of Adelaide, securing their nation’s first-ever spot on the podium at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship. In a stunning display of dominance, the fifth-seeded pair emphatically swept the world’s number one-ranked team, Thamela Coradello and Victoria Lopes of Brazil, in a straight-sets semi-final victory on Saturday.

The Latvian stars—who have consistently been knocking on the door of major finals—proved they were ready to smash through it. Facing the top-seeded Brazilian team, Graudina and Samoilova were relentless, closing the match with a decisive 2-0 (21-10, 21-16) shutout.

The Decisive Match: Power and Precision

From the very first serve, the Latvians played with exceptional focus and aggression, leaving the top-ranked Brazilians struggling to find an answer. The first set was a masterclass in power and control, culminating in a dominant 21-10 scoreline that immediately set the tone for the match.”

The momentum carried into the second set, where Graudina’s imposing presence at the net was key. She recorded an incredible six kill blocks, adding an ace for a match-high 20 points, while Samoilova complemented with sharp defense and strategic offense, tallying 11 points of her own. The Brazilians fought back, but the Latvian pair’s composure and clinical execution were too much, securing the 21-16 victory and the historic final berth.

“Those who follow us know that we’ve been in a lot of semifinals recently and have gone fourth place,” Graudina told VBTV after the game. “So, this match was perhaps even the most important match of this whole tournament so far, and we came in mentally strong.”

🇺🇸 The Gold Medal Challenge: A Showdown with the USA

Graudina and Samoilova’s thrilling victory sets up a highly anticipated gold medal clash against the United States team of Kristen Nuss and Taryn Brasher in Sunday’s final.

The third-seeded Americans earned their own spot in the final after battling through a tough, three-set semi-final victory against Brazil’s second team, Carol Solberg and Rebecca Cavalcanti. The showdown promises a fierce contest, marking the first World Championship final for both the Latvian and the American pair.

While the Americans have held the edge in recent encounters, winning the last five of their six meetings on the Beach Pro Tour, Graudina and Samoilova have proven that past records mean little when the stakes are this high. Inspired by a loyal and vocal Latvian crowd in Adelaide, the European champions are now just one match away from a World Championship gold, a feat that would cement their status as national legends and top contenders on the global stage.

Keys to the Gold Medal Match

The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship gold medal match will feature a compelling final between the surging Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova of Latvia (5th seed) and the consistent American duo of Kristen Nuss and Taryn Brasher (3rd seed). Despite the Americans holding a 5-1 lead in their head-to-head history, the Latvians enter the final with immense momentum after their historic, dominant straight-sets sweep of the World No. 1 Brazilian team in the semi-final. For Latvia to claim the title, they must rely on Graudina’s commanding presence and blocking prowess at the net, which proved disruptive in the semi-final. Conversely, the resilient American pair, known for their gritty defense and minimal errors, will aim to keep the ball in play and force the Latvians into uncharacteristic mistakes, using their consistency and mental toughness to secure the gold.

Young, rising Swedish stars, Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson win their Semi-Final

🇸🇪 All-Swedish Showdown for Beach Volleyball Gold in Adelaide

ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA – History has been made on the sand in Adelaide as Sweden secured both the gold and silver medals in the men’s FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship final, ensuring an all-Swedish showdown on Sunday.

The young, rising stars, Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson, secured their spot in the final after a dominant performance in their semi-final, defeating France’s Téo Rotar and Arnaud Gauthier-Rat in straight sets. At just 20 and 19 years old, Hölting Nilsson and Andersson made history as the youngest team ever to qualify for a men’s World Championship final.

Their opponents in the gold medal match will be their formidable compatriots, the reigning Olympic Champions David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig. The veteran duo clinched their final berth by defeating Germany’s Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler, setting up a thrilling finale that guarantees Sweden’s first-ever gold in the event.

The all-Scandinavian clash pits the youthful momentum of Hölting Nilsson and Andersson against the Olympic routine of Åhman and Hellvig. While the two teams train together, the final marks a significant moment for the sport in Sweden, which is only the second country in history to have two teams play against one another for the World Championship title.

“It’s just incredible that we have two teams in the final of the World Champs,” commented Åhman on the historic achievement, with the younger Andersson adding, “Coming here, everything was a bonus for us and we’re just enjoying everything we do in Adelaide.”

The final is scheduled for Sunday evening, where the world will watch as two Swedish teams battle for the title on the shores of South Australia.
