THE QVB CELEBRATES 120 YEARS

THE QVB CELEBRATES 120 YEARS

Visit  the QVB this Christmas Shopping Season

One of Sydney’s oldest and most treasured shopping destinations in Sydney, the QVB is celebrating 120 glorious years since first opening its doors in 1898. To commemorate the milestone, the QVB will celebrate from Tuesday 17 July, drawing on the rich history and honouring the stories that are the fabric of this Sydney icon.

In many ways the QVB has been a witness to the evolving life of the city and remains a building unparalleled in Australia, in scale and architectural style. Its exuberant sandstone facade hasn’t changed much over the century, even with the threat of demolition in 1959, and its Romanesque style has since proven to stand the test of time.

The QVB has been the setting for thousands of memorable moments, and to celebrate the 120 year anniversary, we have created the QVB Memory Lock installation in partnership with designer James Dive and Scoundrel Projects.

As an ode to the bespoke, intricately inscribed golden key that was given to the Mayoress of Sydney, Francis Harris in 1898 to open the building, a replica 4.8m key will hang in the centre dome for all to see.

To celebrate this historic occasion, we invite you to join us for the 120 Year Celebration event on Thursday 19 July from 4pm – 9pm. Wander through Ground level, Level 1 and 2 as you enjoy an evening of live entertainment, singers and performers, complimentary Penfolds wine, Mumm Cordon Rouge and bespoke QVB cocktails, as well as exclusive offers and experiences from your favourite retailers. Read more about the event here.

Visit us from 17 July – 19 August as we unlock the magic of the QVB.
