What you need to know about the show

 

  • This is the first year three vessels have featured in the smoking ceremony. The 9pm Calling Country pylon projections have been created by Indigenous Social Enterprise, We Are Warriors. The 9pm fireworks display is set to a soundtrack curated by 18YOMAN and Nooky.

 

  • There will be a ‘pink moment’ to acknowledge the work of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, our event charity partner, at 10pm.

 

  • Special pylon projections at 11pm will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Sydney Opera House.

 

  • The fireworks displays are designed by Sydney’s Foti International Fireworks. This is their 27th consecutive year creating the show.

  • The midnight fireworks are synced to a soundtrack provided by THE SWEATS.

 

  • It takes around 4,000 hours for the Foti crew to design, stage and launch the fireworks.

 

  • The 2023 displays involve:

 

  • more than 8.5 tonnes of fireworks

 

  • 18 shipping containers of equipment

  • 5 city rooftops as firing platforms – the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Crown Sydney, Grosvenor Place, the Four Seasons and Salesforce Tower

 

  • 184 firing locations on the Sydney Harbour Bridge

 

  • up to 10 tugboats to move firing platforms into place

 

  • 15 computers to launch the fireworks that require more than 25km of wire and cables

 

  • 58,000 individual firing shots

 

  • more than 13,000 aerial shells featuring Saturn ring and serpent effects

  • 36,000 shooting ground-based effects including comets, mines
    and crossettes

 

  • up to 25,000 igniters to set off the crackers

 

  • the highest fireworks in the show fire 380m into the air
