Sydney  New Year’s Eve on the night

 

 

  • Around 7pm a Port Authority of NSW fire tug blasts tonnes of water into the skies, with the spray creating a striking image against the setting sun.

 

  • From 7:30 pm a Smoking Ceremony will start on the harbour on board vessels the Tribal Warrior, Mari Nawi and Wirawi. An Elder from the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council welcomes spectators around Sydney Harbour.
  • The 9pm Calling Country fireworks display, curated by First Nations artists We Are Warriors and Foti International Fireworks, will celebrate and showcase Australia’s Indigenous cultures.

 

 

 

  • The display will be accompanied by a special video projection display created by We Are Warriors and R/GA (supported by VANDAL) using illustrations by Janelle Burger.

 

  • The animation will be beamed onto the north and south pylons of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The Welcome to Country will also feature on the ABC TV New Year’s Eve broadcast and outdoor concert at the Sydney Opera House.

 

  • This year the 9pm fireworks are synchronised to an original music track created by 18YOMAN and Nooky.

Circular Quay – January 1, 2020. Midnight fireworks are seen over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House from Grosvenor Place during New Year’s Eve celebrations in Sydney.

  • The midnight display will see more fireworks than ever before fired off the four sails of the Sydney Opera House in addition to 36,000 shooting effects, 13,000 aerial shells and more than 75,000 pyrotechnic effects being fired across the rest of the harbour.

 

  • 9,000 firing cues will be launched across 6 barges and 4 pontoons.

 

  • The Sydney Harbour Bridge will be brought to life with 7,000 fireworks cues, across 184 firing locations, and colour changing fireworks that will make the arch of the bridge look like it’s ‘dancing with colour’.

  • This year the midnight fireworks are synchronised to a bespoke music track created by THE SWEATS.

 

  • The City of Sydney manages several locations around the harbour including Observatory Hill Park, Giba Park, Pirrama Park, Embarkation Park, Beare Park and Bicentennial Park.

 

 

  • If you are coming into the city on New Year’s Eve, be sure to plan ahead. Arrive early to secure your spot and avoid disappointment.

 

  • Private functions and restaurants will require a booking, so please make sure you have a ticket or reservation before you come into the city.

 

  • The Sydney New Year’s Eve website has useful information on free and ticketed vantage points to help you plan your night. See the interactive vantage points map on the website.

 

  • Sydney New Year’s Eve radio broadcaster KIIS 1065 broadcasts the exclusive soundtrack at 9pm and midnight. You can view the event on  ABC and iview . The broadcast begins at 8.30pm.
