It is quite easy to get a letter or an opinion piece published on the The Sydney Times – because we are an open and transparent Media organization with no Hidden Agendas!

In addition we are a responsive community service organization and we value the opportunity to serve our community of readers with an exchange of information on important issues.

As we grow our readership it has become apparent from the steady  trickle of letters (expecially in relation to The Voice) that We have to commence our new Letters to the Editor category.

In order to facilitate the process ,..there  are several  things We request you  to observe in order to  improve your letter’s chances of being published !

Keep it short- We ask for letters to be no longer than 150 words for The Sydney Times  .We may ocassionally publish longer letters but prefer  ones that are  shorter as most readers “who have had their brains  digitally rewired by social media”,.. have a short span of attention LOL!

Keep it simple -Please Try to make one or two clear points on a specific subject matter or controversy.

Keep it with us -Don’t include us in a mailout blast to every newspaper on the planet,.. Try to make  it clear you have not offered your letter elsewhere.

We do  publish form letters, open letters or press releases as a service to the community.

Keep it fresh Please don’t send the same letter over and over again.

Keep it civil- Please don’t indulge in abuse or vituperation.. However strongly you feel about your point, extreme language will not be published and defamoatry statements will be edited or truncated.

Be  relevant Your letter will have a better chance if it refers to a story in the paper or on the website, or a previous letter.

Keep it open Please disclose any relevant information. such as your involvement with an organisation or a political party or a lobby group or pressure group,..or any affiliation that may be remotely connected to the subject matter of your letter.

Follow the rules -Please read the submissions criteria carefully. We always need your full name (not just initials), home address and a phone number.

A work address is sufficient if you are writing on behalf of an organisation at that address.

Please note We do not acknowledge receipt of unpublished letters unless the writer requests it.

Anonymity -We can occasionally publish letters and withhold the name and/or suburb of the writer because of security or privacy issues

We are always happy to answer questions about your  submissions.

Please email: [email protected]
