Now winter is almost here, it’s important to remember respiratory illnesses like influenza, RSV and COVID-19 are serious, especially for people aged 65 and over.
Vaccinations are the best way to protect yourself and others from serious illness. These vaccines can be given at the same time. A vaccine for RSV is now available for free for those aged 75 and over, and for Aboriginal people 60 and over.
So talk to your GP or pharmacist about getting the vaccines that are right for you. Protect yourself and others, so you don’t miss a thing.

Influenza
Respiratory viruses such as influenza, also known as flu, are expected to rise this winter.
Influenza is serious, but it isn’t as scary if you’re vaccinated. The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months and over and is free for people 65 years and over.
Getting a flu vaccine is quick and easy, and offers you the best protection from serious illness, so you don’t miss out on the things you love doing. The flu vaccine is available now from your GP or pharmacy, so book today.

RSV
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a respiratory infection, that can lead to a runny nose, cough and difficulty breathing.
RSV is a highly infectious illness that mostly affects young children and older adults.
The RSV vaccine (Arexvy) is free for adults aged 75 years and older and Aboriginal people aged 60 years and older.
RSV vaccination is also recommended (but not funded) for people aged 60 years and older who have specific conditions associated with increased risk of severe disease. Speak to your GP to find out more.

COVID-19
Protect yourself from COVID-19 with a free vaccine so you can keep doing the things you love.
If you’re 65 years or older, a COVID-19 vaccine is recommended every 12 months. For people 75 years and over, it is recommended every 6 months.
