Matilda Cheshire joins the Sydney Times

Matilda Cheshire joins the Sydney Times as a journalist covering news and current affairs, state and federal politics, and arts and culture. She brings hands-on experience across broadcast, print, and digital platforms, having worked as a Line Producer at News24 (formerly Sky News) and as a News Producer Liaison at Channel 9, where she facilitated the exchange of news media between networks.
Matilda is completing a double Bachelor of Arts and Advanced Studies at the University of Sydney, majoring in Politics and International Relations with a minor in Sociology, graduating in June 2027. She is a published reporter at Honi Soit, the university’s student newspaper, where her work has included interview features including a profile of comedian Wil Anderson and event reviews on theatre, art, and live music. Her freelance writing has appeared in Bar News, the journal of the NSW Bar Association, and she publishes independently via Substack.
She has undertaken journalism and copywriting training through GALAH Magazine’s On Being A Journalist course, receiving mentorship from editor Annabelle Hickson and Sydney Morning Herald journalist Dan Kaufman, as well as the Word Tonic Copywriting Course and the Solutions Journalism Network’s beat reporting program.
