Vantage points – Places to watch the Sydney New Year’s Eve fireworks

As the  Omicron variant is surging around Sydney, many people are electing to stay  at home in front of the TV this New Year’s Eve and watch the New year celbrations virtually by watching TV or ABC I-view.! One presumes this is pretty much in accord with the plans that Mark Zuckerberg has for all of us ,..to live a virtual life ,…we no longer do need to be there in situ,.. it is all becoming a virtual experience!

We can now absorb the full experience and all entertainment via images displayed on a flat screen!?

It must be said that Omnicron has forced the cancellation of many events including the massive and elaborate events that were originally planned for Melbourne!

But remenber -Face mask rules

OK so where does that leave us?
While it’s no longer going to be the crazy New years Eve that many Australians had hoped for, there’s no need to completely abandon plans to abandon all plans.

Happily ,..Sydney’s New Year’s Eve celebrations have not been cancelled,..and are are going ahead, in a more organized and subdued fashion,..despite growing COVID-19 case numbers across the City , but the tradition of crowding onto harbourside foreshores for free with an esky packed full of drinks and Bubbly to ring in the New Year is definitely off.

If you want to see the massive  fireworks display  into the sky at 9pm and again at at midnight, you generally have to pre-book at most vantage points.

Most sites  are charging admission but popular areas such as Blues Point Reserve, Giba Park Pyrmont, Lavender Bay and Observatory Hill are still offering free tickets.,..nut again you need to Book and show a Ticket on your App to gain access.

In previous years, most  locations would sell out,.. but this year it appears there has been a reluctance to venture out, with many tickets still available.

If you don’t have a booking at a vantage point or a reservation at a venue, you are being asked not to travel into the CBD, where a heavy police presence is expected on the ground and on the harbour.

The New South Wales Police Minister, Paul Toole, has pleaded with people to celebrate sensibly.

Here are a selection of the Locations and venues that are available.

*Remember to only travel into the city if you have a ticket to vantage point or reservation at a venue.

Observatory Hill opens to ticket holders at 7pm. You’ll need scan your ticket (on your phone or as a print-out) on arrival. Ticket holders must arrive by 10.30pm.

Remember to only travel into the city if you have a ticket to vantage point or reservation at a venue.

Use the vantage point map to find a location with availability or see a list of events at venues in the city tonight.
