THE BEST OF REGIONAL NSW ON DISPLAY FOR

HRH PRINCESS ANNE

The 2022 Sydney Royal Easter Show will have an important visitor, with Her Royal Highness (HRH) Princess Anne officially opening this year’s bicentenary event.

Premier Dominic Perrottet welcomed HRH Princess Anne on behalf of the NSW Government, and thanked her for her interest in regional NSW and what it has to offer.

“The best of regional NSW will be put on display for HRH Princess Anne during this year’s show. There is no better time for HRH to visit our state in what is the NSW Royal Agricultural Society’s 200th anniversary,” Mr Perrottet said.

“Supporting regional NSW is a key focus of the NSW Government, especially during more recent times when we have faced droughts, bushfires, floods and a pandemic.”

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said he is proud the best of the bush is on display at the Show and the hard work of farmers and primary producers can be recognised by the Royal Family.

“We are thrilled to welcome HRH Princess Anne to NSW. With a keen interest in agriculture, I’m sure HRH Princess Anne will enjoy being able to speak with the regions’ producers and see firsthand our world-class food and fibre,” Mr Toole said.

“The Royal Easter Show showcases the achievements of the hardworking individuals in the NSW agricultural industry, so it’s great to be able to share the best tastes, sights and sounds of the bush with other parts of the world.”

Minister for Agriculture Dugald Saunders said 2022 was the perfect year for HRH Princess Anne to open the Royal Easter Show, with the Royal Agricultural Society celebrating its bicentenary.

“The Royal Agricultural Society has been an influential force in the history of Australian agriculture, and this year’s show is about honouring the past and embracing the future,” Mr Saunders said.

“In the early days, the emphasis was on agriculture and food provisions for the new colony; it then evolved to educate and inform people about agriculture, and now also acts as a promoter for the industry.

“Just like the RAS, the NSW Government has a long and proud history of building stronger primary industries. From the establishment of experimental farm in 1982, to the department moving to Orange in 1992, through to our world leading research and development in 2022.

“It is humbling to see the vastly innovative and quality work undertaken in the primary industries sector and I am proud to be able to share this work with HRH Princess Anne over the course of the Show.”

The official opening ceremony for the Sydney Royal Easter Show will take place later today at GIANTS Stadium in Sydney Olympic Park.

The NSW Mounted Police will escort HRH Princess Anne as she makes her way into the stadium in a horse-drawn caleche originally built more than 150 years ago.

The Australian Defence Force, including Australia’s Federation Guard and the Defence band, will also participate in the official opening.
