ROZELLE BAY – A WORKING HARBOUR SHOULD WORK FOR ALL
The future of Rozelle Bay is being transformed with planning underway for an historic new government-led precinct which will include 30 per cent affordable housing.
Minister for Infrastructure, Cities and Active Transport Rob Stokes said the stunning foreshore location and proximity of the future metro station provide a wonderful opportunity to invest in the future of Sydney and its key workers.
“We are committing up front to delivering a landmark 30 per cent affordable housing on the site, which sits just 2km from the CBD, Sydney University and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital,” Mr Stokes said.
“Key workers from carers to cleaners to café workers are the backbone of our city and they should not have to leave home at 4am to get to work in the CBD.”
Minister for Transport, Veterans and Western Sydney David Elliott said master planning for Rozelle Bay was only possible because of the record infrastructure investment being poured into the area.
“This working harbour precinct is in an enviable position given its proximity to the future Rozelle Parklands which will be under construction soon and the broader Bays West redevelopment including the Bays Metro Station scheduled to open in 2030,” Mr Elliott said.
“There is now an incredible chance to see public land used for public benefit, balancing working harbor needs, with urban renewal in one of the last major harbourside sites our city has to offer.”
Chief Executive of Placemaking NSW Anita Mitchell, who will lead the master plan in partnership with Transport for NSW, said this is a step government needed to take to make the city accessible to everyone.
