Pizzini’s Wine Experience in the King Valley
Pizzini are makers of Italian wine varieties and are based in King Valley, Victoria. The King Valley has established itself as the home of Italian grape varieties in Australia. The shallow, rocky soils on the gently undulating slopes make perfect sites for Pinot Grigio, Sangiovese and Nebbiolo. While the more fertile zones along the valley floor leading to the King River grow fragrant Brachetto and crisp Prosecco. The wines are made by Joel Pizzini, the vineyards managed by Alfred Pizzini.
The Pizzinis are Italian at heart inspired by growing, making, eating, drinking and sharing riendship. They planted their vines more than 30 years ago and continue to grow the finest Italian varietal wines
History
Alfred Pizzini first sought out and planted Italian varietals such as Sangiovese and Nebbiolo in the King Valley to reconnect with his northern Italian roots but also to share these wonderfully savoury wines with friends and family in Australia.
These Italian varietals go “hand in hand” with good food and good company – it is easy to picture an Italian family table – joyous and loud, laden with delicious dishes from “cucina italiana” to share and complete with good wine and plenty of laughter.

All about Pinot Grigio
“Some see Pinot Grigio as a simple wine to grow, make and drink. Yes, it’s easy enough to make a basic Pinot Grigio, but if you aim a little higher, or a lot higher as we do, then that’s not the case – for me blending our Pinot Grigio each year is one of my biggest, yet most enjoyable challenges.”
The Pizzini Pinot Grigio is sourced from fourteen of the Whitfield district’s most meticulous grape growers. They make each batch as a separate, finished wine before trying and blending a number of combinations that vary the different components.
“Over time the winemaker has noted the characteristics of the grapes sourced from each grower which range from mineral, crisp acid, lemon, salty and lemonade through to riper apple, crunchy pear, pear drop and pear blossom. This knowledge helps us decide when to pick each parcel of grapes and to shape the Pizzini house style of Pinot Grigio.”
The objective when blending the Pinot Grigio is to find a seamless balance of all of these characteristics, resulting in a refreshing yet complex wine that we hope you will enjoy drinking as much as I enjoy making it.

Pietra Rossa is our new name for the well known Pizzini Sangiovese, and with the 2017 vintage we celebrate the 21st release of this wine. Mouth-watering aromas of red berries, spice, sour cherries and earthy undertones up front. As the wine opens up there are savoury notes which follow onto the classic Sangiovese palate of vibrant cherry and plum flavours. It is juicy, fleshy and drinkable.

The palate is deep, structured and powerful, all elements we pride ourselves on when working with special varietal. Rich red fruits, spiced plums and red liquorice lead us to solid earthy tannins, and a remarkably bright and generous finish. Perfect with a winter duck ragout.
