Lockdown Recipe Inspiration from Sydney Seafood school

Lockdown Recipe Inspiration from Sydney Seafood school

In the meantime, we encourage you to continue your seafood cooking journey while in lockdown. Fresh seafood is available at Sydney Fish Market (which remains open as an essential service), or for delivery direct from SFM retailers (ordering details here), and we have a huge selection of delicious recipes available on our website.

The extra time at home that lockdown affords us is a great opportunity to try something new in the kitchen. Here are some of our top lockdown recipe recommendations, with ingredients linked to save you time searching!

Yellowfin Bream with Vietnamese Salad

Vietnamese food is often quite subtle, lacking the intense heat of dishes from neighbouring Thailand, making it perfect for a work-from-home lunch that won’t weigh you down. Don’t think that means less flavour though: this dish combines an array of delicate flavours from fragrant herbs, vegetables, and leaves.

Order Yellowfin Bream from GetFish to get started with this dish.

Barbecued Coriander & Pepper Prawns

This spicy dish is great as a quick snack, entrée or finger food cooked on the BBQ or in a frying pan.

The best part is that it doesn’t require very many ingredients, meaning it’s super easy to make it work if your pantry stocks are running low.

Nicholas Seafoods will deliver extra large green Tiger Prawns directly to your door for just $14.99/500g.

Oysters with Shallot Vinaigrette

If lockdown isn’t the perfect time to treat yourself, we don’t know what is! So grab a tray of fresh oysters from Claudio’s Seafood (they’re offering free delivery at the moment!), and whip up this classic dressing: a vinaigrette flavoured with shallot.

Use a mild, slightly sweet, white wine vinegar (like the chardonnay vinegars sold under the LiraH and Forum brands), as a stronger vinegar will overpower the delicate flavour of the oysters.

Tuna Baked in Paper Parcels

This is a perfect dish for being stuck at home, as these parcels can be prepared several hours ahead of time, then removed from the fridge 30 minutes before you’re ready to cook them. Opening up these parcels on a cold day is so satisfying, releasing a delicious aroma of basil.

Tuna steaks are available for delivery from Peters’ Sydney Fish Market.
