LABOR TO RECALL UPPER HOUSE OVER SECRET BARILARO DOCUMENTS
In a rare move, Labor will recall the NSW Legislative Council this Friday at 10.00am to address the government’s secrecy claim over 180 documents regarding the appointment of former National Party Leader John Barilaro as the NSW Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner to the Americas.
The public have the right to see these documents.
The Public Accountability Committee should also be able to use them in public hearings.
Today Labor has put a formal proposal to the Government that would see the them drop their secrecy claims, and expedite the production of the most important documents.
We intend to continue the constructive discussions we’ve had with the Government over this matter.
Labor can also report that the Government has now agreed to the public release of some additional documents from the NSW Treasury.
We thank the Government for dropping their secrecy claims over these documents. We look forward to the Legislative Council making them public shortly.
