Italy win incredible women’s LW2x final

The last final of the day is the women’s lightweight double sculls.

Great Britain, who have had a very poor regatta so far by their standards, start strongly and lead at 500, but four crews are more or less neck and neck through 900 as they come up to halfway.

It’s the Dutch ahead of France, Italy, and GB at halfway but less than a second between them.

Now the Netherlands crew really up their pace to go half a length clear of the other three boats still fighting for the minor medals.

At 1500 it’s NED from GBR and ITA but still anyone’s race for silver and bronze.

Italy now surging and opening a gap to Great Britain as they try to catch the Dutch crew. USA are coming into the picture too!

The Netherlands just dropping back slightly as Italy continue the fast pace, but the Dutch still ahead. Neck and neck between four crews for the medals, the U.S. have fallen back.

Did the Dutch go too early? What a race! It’s Italy and France on the line for gold and silver with just 0.14 seconds between them!

Netherlands and Great Britain super close for bronze and this may be going to a photo finish. Bronze to the Dutch crew by just 0.01 second! Heartbreak for GBR.
