Imagine … the Wonder of Picture Books at Mitchell Library

Free exhibition, until 9 July 2023
Immerse yourself in the wonder of picture books through rarely seen illustrations, rich audiovisual content and hands-on activities. No matter your age, this exhibition is sure to brighten your day.
Be reunited with quirky characters from some of your favourite stories, like May Gibbs’ adorable Gumnut Babies and Ted Prior’s likeable bush character, Grug.
View original artwork from some of Australia’s best contemporary children’s authors/illustrators, including Matt Cosgrove and Bronwyn Bancroft, and discover some new favourites in newcomers like illustrator Christina Huynh (Grandma’s Treasured Shoes).
We’ve set up a dedicated activity space, brimming with fun things to do. Kids can learn how to draw their favourite characters, curl up with a book from the exhibition, or play with a giant textured tree and magnetic wall.
