Easter Show extravaganza begins-The Country comes to the City

A sold-out Good Friday at the Sydney Royal Easter Show heralds the start of the Easter long weekend and there’s plenty on offer!

If you’re an animal fan, you’re in luck as today brings a host of animal judging competitions including Clydesdale horses, Merino sheep, dairy goats, and the ever-popular dogs and cats. If amazing feats of athleticism is more your speed have a look at the ladies and men world championship final for sawing which is sure to be an absolute blast.

The Rural Student Café is opening its doors today in the Fashion and Lifestyle Pavilion and the highly anticipated opening ceremony takes place in the afternoon in GIANTS Stadium.

Today’s judging and competition highlights include:

  • Sydney Royal Horse Show Clydesdale Judging at 8:30am, GIANTS Stadium
  • Sydney Royal Merino Sheep Show Judging at 8.30am, Sheep Pavilion
  • Sydney Royal Dairy Goat Show Judging at 9am, Pig and Goat Pavilion
  • Sydney Royal Cat Show Judging at 9am, Pet Pavilion
  • Sydney Royal Dog Show Judging at 9am, Pet Pavilion


Sydney Royal Merino Sheep Show Judging

The Sydney Royal Merino Sheep show judging is back in business. Come on down to the Sheep Pavilion today to watch and learn all about the merino wool industry from some of the best breeders and producers in the business. Inspections of the Merino Sheep and their wool take place between 8:30 – 10:30am, with judging of pair and group classes between 1:00 – 5:00pm.


ADVANCE Sydney Royal Cat Show Judging
Visit the pet pavilion and witness the amazing talent of our feline friends and their fabulous owners at the 9:00am Royal Cat Show. One of the most prestigious competitions in Australia, this event attracts more than 40 different breeds of cats each with their own unique charm and appeal. This year’s judging is sure to come down to a hair or in this case a whisker!

Feel free to have a chat with competitors as well to find out what it takes to compete at the Sydney Royal and how they get their animals so pristinely purr-fect.

Official Opening Ceremony

A long-standing tradition of the Show, the Opening Ceremony will be performed by New South Wales Governor, Margaret Joan Beazley, AC, QC. Featuring the talents of the Australian Defence Force (ADF), including Australia’s Federation Guard, and the sensational ADF Band, this is one ceremony you won’t want to miss! Get there early to grab your seats and witness this important piece of Show history!

The ceremony will be held at GIANTS Stadium at 4pm.

Tickets for this year’s show are strictly limited, so visit the Show website early to secure your ticket and plan your journey – There will be significant additional public transport during the Show with special event busses and direct train services from Central Station to Sydney Olympic Park, bringing you right to the entrance of the Showground.
