Kindergarten student Hayley Shepard from Surveyors Creek Public School in Glenmore Park will have her design printed onto the Minister’s Christmas Cards, as well as receive a framed copy of her artwork and a package of books and stationery.
This year 1,100 Kindergarten students from more than 100 public schools submitted impressive drawings of their dream Christmas.
Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell and Member for Mulgoa Tanya Davies congratulated Hayley while on a visit to her school.
“Hayley’s drawing is a classic and one that I know will bring a smile to the faces of everyone who receives it, especially after the tough year that it has been,” Ms Mitchell said.
“Every year I look forward to seeing all the creative and inspiring drawings that our students bring to life from their imagination. From snowboarding reindeers to skydiving Santas, I am always impressed by the originality and artistry on display.
“Christmas is such an exciting time for children and I know there are a lot of young people in NSW who will be dreaming of waking up to a puppy on Christmas day like Hayley – I hope Santa got the memo!”
Member for Mulgoa Tanya Davies said she was thrilled that a talented student in her electorate was recognized and that many people will get to enjoy the design.
“I am so proud of Hayley for winning the 2021 Minister’s Christmas Card Competition, I know this means a lot to her and to Surveyors Creek Public School,” Tanya Davies said.
“It’s been a tough year for students and this competition is a wonderful chance for them to have some fun and look forward to Christmas. Hayley’s design had bright colours, Christmas cheer and a puppy, which is very relatable to all the children in NSW with an ambitious Christmas wish list.”
Surveyors Creek Public School principal Kathy Browne said having one of their students win was a lovely way to celebrate the end of a difficult year.
“We’re all really proud of her, and it’s an honour to have Hayley’s picture on the Minister’s Christmas card,” Ms Browne said.
Curtis Byrnes from Gerringong Public School and Amarli Yeats from Brooke Avenue Public School were highly commended, and they will each receive a book pack and set of pencils.
