Retirement of the Honourable Scott Morrison MP

NSW LIBERAL PARTY Media Satement

24 january,2024

The announcement by the Hon Scott Morrison MP of his pending retirement from Parliament draws to a close a 16-year parliamentary career, including four years as Australia’s Prime Minister, during which he served the Liberal Party, the people of Cook, and our nation with distinction.

Scott had made an outstanding contribution during his years of dedicated service to NSW and Australia, helping to deliver re-elections of the Howard Government in 2001 and 2004 as the NSW State Director, helping Coalition win elections as a senior Minister in 2013 and 2016, and leading the Coalition Government to victory in 2019.

On becoming Australia’s Prime Minister, he helped to uphold peace and stability in our region as the architect of the AUKUS agreement and led Australia through a once-in-a-century pandemic. His Government’s steering of our nation through the COVID pandemic had helped save countless lives and preserved our economy – with programs like JobKeeper helping support more than a million businesses and saving more than four million jobs.

Scott had been a committed servant of the Liberal Party, and after a successful career in public service we wish him all the best for his post-politics endeavours.
