China win table tennis gold

Hosts Japan put up a challenge but table tennis powerhouses People’s Republic of China were just too good in the women’s team final tonight.

Even without LIU Shiwen, the mixed doubles silver medallist who withdrew from the team competition with injury, singles gold and silver medallists CHEN Meng and SUN Yingsha, and world number four WANG Manyu eased to victory in the competition.

ISHIKAWA Kasumi and HIRANO Miu in doubles and ITO Mima in the first singles rubber managed to take a game each off their opponents, but China took the title with a 3–0 win.

Earlier this afternoon, Hong Kong China beat Germany for bronze.
