Comedian Adam Hills and Ali McGregor to host NYE Opera Gala at Sydney Opera House

Opera Australia has announced soprano and award-winning cabaret star Ali McGregor and comedian and TV presenter Adam Hills will host this year’s New Year’s Eve Opera Gala in the Concert Hall at the Sydney Opera House.

The Opera Gala will be a wild journey through the world of opera with a distinctly Australian flavour, right in the heart of Sydney’s world famous New Year’s Eve celebrations.

The cast will feature tenor Diego Torre, stunning sopranos Julie-Lea Goodwin and Sophie Salvesani and baritone Luke Gabbedy, joined onstage by the Opera Australia Orchestra and conducted by Opera Australia’s Head of Music Tahu Matheson.

Ali McGregor is a singer and producer, who started her career as a principal soprano with Opera Australia. She is now an award-winning cabaret performer who has appeared everywhere from Glastonbury to Carnegie Hall. She has also formed her own company, FLUXUS, to support the development of new Australian operas.

A five-time Gold Logie nominee, Adam Hills is one of Australia’s best-known comedians. He is adored across Australia for his iconic role as host of ABC TV’s music-orientated quiz show Spicks and Specks and for tv shows, Adam Hills Tonight and The Last Leg, his talk show on the UK’s Channel 4.

The Gala marks the first time the couple have hosted together, promising an evening of beloved opera classics, sung by some of Opera Australia’s favourite principal artists, with plenty of laughs and surprises along the way.

A ticket to the Opera Gala will give audience members the opportunity to enjoy Sydney’s world famous 9pm fireworks during interval and with the addition of a dining and party package, can also secure front row seats for all the spectacular NYE action on the Harbour.

The Pre-performance Dinner features champagne on arrival and a gourmet three-course meal matched with premium wines. The Midnight Party kicks off after the performance, offering live music, canapés and beverages that will see guests well into 2024. Both will be held in the Sydney Opera House’s, Concert Hall Northern Foyer with spectacular views of Sydney Harbour.

For the ultimate NYE experience guests can book the Platinum package which includes priority seating at the Pre-Performance Dinner, the very best platinum reserve performance seats, a program, champagne at interval and the Midnight Party.

No other city celebrates New Year’s Eve like Sydney and there’s nowhere else to be this year than at the Sydney Opera House.
