NGV Teens: Art Party to celebrate the vibrant colour of Pierre Bonnard

22 August 2023: The NGV’s Great Hall is set to transform with vibrant colour and live performances for the NGV Teens: Art Party, a one-night-only event headlined by dynamic rising star KYE. The exclusive event on Saturday 9 September invites 1,000 teens to enjoy art, music, dance and creativity in celebration of the 2023 Melbourne Winter Masterpieces® exhibition Pierre Bonnard: Designed by India Mahdavi

Embracing the iridescent world of French artist Pierre Bonnard and the bold scenography of Paris-based architect and designer, India Mahdavi, Art Party allows teens to creatively express themselves and socialise in a safe, fun, welcoming and inclusive environment.

Following a successful Australian tour and the launch of her second EP Ribena in May, Zimbabwean-born, Melbourne-based KYE will bring her captivating pop melodies to the Great Hall. KYE is a rising star in the Australian music scene and has previously shared the stage with acts including Sampa the Great, Ruel, and Genesis Owusu.

Inspired by Pierre Bonnard’s natural landscapes, hair-stylist James Hatton will invite teens to style their hair with colourful blossoms and leafy sprigs to celebrate the beginning of spring, and in collaboration with the NGV Teen Council, NGV curators will share more stories of Bonnard in an exclusive exhibition tour.

n the NGV Gallery Kitchen, artist Alice Oehr, known for her colourful collages will host a Still Life Drawing Workshop to learn how to use colour and shape, taking inspiration from a styled table setting.

Stephanie Pohlman, Senior Project Coordinator, Community and Access Programs NGV said ‘The NGV Teens: Art Party is a highlight of NGV’s year-round teens program, which connects teenagers with contemporary artists and rich creative experiences to inspire social connections and foster the next generation of creative minds. This spring we hope that young Victorians will be inspired by the deep creativity of Pierre Bonnard and India Mahdavi whose work illuminates the beauty of art and design in everyday life.’
