ANAM SKETCHES AT ACO on The Pier
There is nothing quite like experiencing the energy, passion and talent of young musicians on the edge of their professional careers. This September Sydney music lovers can savour that feeling in a specially curated concert featuring musicians from the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM), Australia’s equivalent of The Juilliard School.
ANAM is a renowned cultural institution dedicated to shaping the musical leaders of tomorrow. In this bold showcase, they perform one of Pierre Boulez’s most enthralling pieces, the Messagesquisse for seven cellos alongside Australian composer Richard Meale’s intriguing masterpiece, Incredible Floridas.
A highlight of the concert is the world premiere of Sydney-based composer Jane Sheldon’s Talking with herself alone for singing violist. The work is a commission through ANAM’s ambitious project – the ANAM Set – where ANAM musicians are paired with composers to collaborate and create new works and will be performed and sung by Matteo Osenk.
This concert marks ANAM’s Sydney debut, yet ANAM musicians are no strangers to Australia’s premier stages, presenting over 200 performances each year including regular performances with leading national and international guest artists, orchestras and ensembles.
“ANAM is an extraordinary institution: intense, demanding, challenging and immensely rewarding to be involved with. The musicians are totally engaged and committed.”
– Simone Young AM, Conductor
