Inner West Council to host second Repair Day after record community turnout

 Sydney

Media Release/28th November, 2025

Following the overwhelming success of Inner West Council’s inaugural Repair Day in August – where residents brought in more than 112 items to be fixed in a single day – the Inner West Sustainability Hub is gearing up for another celebration of repair, reuse and community creativity.
On Saturday 29 November, from 10am–3pm, residents are invited to the Inner West Sustainability Hub in Summer Hill for a full day dedicated to breathing new life into pre-loved items, learning hands-on skills, and exploring local circular economy initiatives.
The free community event brings together skilled craftspeople, designers and repair experts offering everything from bike tune-ups and clothing fixes to furniture assessments, hand-tool restoration and jewellery repair.
Attendees can also join guided tours of the Sustainability Hub, browse the RePlace second-hand clothing market, or visit The Bower’s boutique for unique vintage and reclaimed treasures.
And yes – there’s free coffee. Simply donate a good-quality, unchipped ceramic mug to contribute to the community mug library and enjoy a brew on the house (while stocks last).
Councillor Mat Howard said the event helps make sustainable living feel accessible and achievable for everyone:
“Repair Day is a practical way for locals to experience the circular economy in action – fixing, mending and learning instead of sending things to landfill,” said Clr Mat Howard. “What I love most is seeing neighbours come together to share skills and give their favourite items a second life.”
“Ensuring residents have free access to the tools, skills and expert help needed to live more sustainably reflects our commitment to building a circular, low-waste future.” He continued.
Event highlights:

Clothing Repair Station –
Jody Head of Algorithm Design, an experienced designer and maker, will be onsite at RePlace to deliver general clothing repair services such as mending hems, buttons, straps and holes.
Furniture Repair Station – by The Bower
For a $30 fee, book in with Bower Repair for a furniture repair assessment. Simple repairs will be completed on the spot; more complex repairs will be quoted, with the $30 consult fee deducted from the final cost.
Jewellery Rejig Drop-In
Drop in anytime during the day to ‘rejig’ your jewellery — tighten clasps, shorten chains or add extra reclaimed beads and bling.
(No booking required.)

Jewellery Repair & Reconstruction
Join Anna Kocsis from Mancika Designs for a jewellery repair session and pick up practical repair tips while your piece is restored.
Hand Tool Restoration – by The Bower
Book in for expert restoration of your hand tools.
Bike Tune-Ups – by Bower Bikes
Book a quick tune-up. The Bower Bikes team can pump tyres, oil chains, adjust squeaky brakes and get you ride-ready.
Sewing Machine Service
For $30, Brian Thomas (‘Mr Sewing AU’) will service your sewing machine and provide quotes for additional work if needed.
Repair Day Walking Tours of the Hub
Explore the Inner West Sustainability Hub on a 30-minute guided tour, showcasing eco-living innovations, small-space edible gardens, EV charging, and upcoming hands-on workshops. Hear from onsite tenants about what they offer and how you can get involved.

Most sessions are timed and bookings are essential.
The event is free for Inner West Council residents only, with proof of address required.
Sessions are limited to one per person.
