Sydney, Australia – September 2025 – Hay St Market is embarking on a food-forward Oktoberfest, trading the typical boozy revelry for a joyful celebration of culture, community, and of course, irresistible German dishes. Over the three-day celebration, visitors can soak up a festive atmosphere, filled with traditional music, hearty cuisine and the spirit of Bavaria.

Forget the beer tents and carnival rides, Hay St Market is putting on a celebration rooted in authentic culture, shared moments and the rich flavours of Germany. Oktoberfest at Hay St Market brings people together and is one the whole family can enjoy, with communal tables, warm hospitality, and food
made for sharing.
Visitors can experience a delicious tasting journey through Germany. Start with a juicy bratwurst or weisswurst, paired with sweet and tangy mustard. Then savour the show-stopping pork knuckle, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Share a warm, freshly baked brezel (aka German pretzel) with friends, and finish on a sweet note with a classic apfelstrudel filled with spiced apple and wrapped in delicate pastry. But the delights don’t stop there, take home a sweet keepsake
Lebherzkuchen, a traditional gingerbread heart.

Don’t worry, for those craving more of the classic Oktoberfest experience, you can make your way over to the Traders Bar or Cans Bar. Here you’ll find a selection of authentic German beers from a crisp Dortmunder from Yullis Brews to a Hefeweizen from Sydney Brewery, a fruity wheat beer and an Oktoberfest staple. You’ll be able to sip and stroll through the market with a stein in hand as the lively sounds of the Oktoberfest classics fill the air, performed by a talented band mixing old world charm and modern celebration.

Hay St Market Culinary Director, George Diamond, has curated the menu in close collaboration with traders to create dishes that celebrate traditional Bavarian recipes and flavours.
“Oktoberfest is a festival renowned for its food and drink. We’ve designed each dish to reflect Bavarian spirit, from regional Bavarian favourites to soul-warming comfort food, all crafted to be enjoyed in good company,” said Diamond.
Whether you’re planning a full tasting adventure or simply dropping in for a bite, Oktoberfest at Hay St Market promises a true taste of Bavaria, right in the heart of Sydney.
