2022: a year to be proud of ✨

DEAR READER

2022 has been a milestone year for our communities. From shining at the 2022 Festival, to inviting the world Down Under for Sydney WorldPride and everything in between. We saw the return of Mardi Gras favourites, including Fair Day, Mardi Gras Pool Parties and Sissy Ball as well as filling a sold-out Sydney Cricket Ground for the 44th Mardi Gras Parade – all while navigating and continuing the ongoing fight for equality in a particularly challenging political year for our communities.

In 2023 the world will head to our shores for the first WorldPride in the Southern Hemisphere, we’ll see the return of Mardi Gras Party and our beloved Parade will come home to Oxford Street for the 45th anniversary of the very first Mardi Gras march.

Wherever and however you celebrate the end of 2022, we wish you a safe and restful holiday season and that you are proud of all we have achieved this year. We cannot wait for 2023!

Vale Barry Cecchini
It is with heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of Mardi Gras Lifetime Achievement Recipient Barry Cecchini. Barry had an immeasurable impact on Mardi Gras over the years, notably using his hotel license from The Beresford Hotel to help facilitate the very first Mardi Gras Party and was a driving force in the emergence of queer-run venues in Sydney’s Inner West.
