Over the past couple of years we’ve dealt with droughts and fires and this vintage was no exception with hail and another record rainfall. However looking on the bright side we have also been busy securing vineyard and growing our own holdings.
Vintage 2022 was a return to a classic cool year in Orange where there was a slow build to ripeness and amazing retention of acidity and freshness. A classic year for Sauvignon Blanc and aromatic white wine in general. I think Riesling will be exceptional and Chardonnay will age for a generation. Check out the 2022 No19 Sauvignon Blanc, its my best ever.
I love when I can learn something new and this year involved our beloved Shiraz variety. I was hesitant to ferment with whole bunch for fear of what may have been a slightly more herbaceous or even under ripe fruit, however in the end I went all in and the results speak for themselves. It appears the stems absorbed some of the spice or pepper which can be overt in cool years and we have created a wine with wonderful palate texture and mouthfeel. A medium bodied and classic cool climate shiraz.
